Ellis Blasts Charlton Kings To WEPL Victory

Benny Ellis hit the ball to all parts as Charlton Kings stormed to a 213-run win over Hawkesbury in the Gloucestershire Division of the West of England Premier League.

Ellis smashed 183 from 119 balls – 23 fours and eight sixes – as the home side made 367-6 in their 50 overs. Ellis then followed up by taking 3-34 as Hawkesbury were dismissed in 35.5 overs despite Kudzai Maunze making 70. Karan Sharma returned the best figures of 3-17 for Charlton Kings.

Maaz Mustak took 5-49 as Gloucester enjoyed a seven-wicket win at Chipping Campden. The home side were bowled out for 208 with Jack Groves their main contributor with 95 before being run out in the final over. Lafras van Vuuren (67 not) and Joe Sligh (57 not) then saw Gloucester home in 36.1 overs.

A week after tying with leaders Bourton Vale, Stroud were involved in another close game before going down by nine runs to Langford. Stroud closed on 231-9 after Luke Benneyworth had top-scored with 60. Aaron Court made 63 for Langford while Nimesh Ilukwatte picked up 4-33 for Stroud. Earlier, Freddie Webb took 3-47 for Langford.

In-form Premier One new boys Dumbleton climbed into the top four with a quickfire eight-wicket win over leaders Burbage & Easton Royal.

The table-toppers were shot out for 104 in 24.2 overs with opening bowlers Ollie Horne (4-41) and Ross Martin (4-49) doing the damage. Dumbleton then knocked off the runs in 17.1 overs.

Frocester are one point and one place below Dumbleton after scoring 333 in a 112-run win over Potterne. Former skipper Uzi Qureshi, batting at seven, smashed 70 from 37 balls, while Luke Woolway made 75 and captain Will Naish 51.

Manelka De Silva took 5-63 before Potterne were dismissed in 37.5 overs despite Jack Mynott’s 58. Wimma Perera (3-26) and Ryan Kilmister (3-76) were the most successful of Frocester’s bowlers.

Thornbury were another side to top 300 but their 304-7 was not enough to topple Midsomer Norton, who reached their target with four wickets and more than seven overs to spare. Opener Chris Gibson top-scored for Thornbury with 121 while skipper Harry Thomas made 57.

Downend walloped Old Bristolians Westbury by 291 runs in Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset after making 383-7. Skipper Jordan Garrett led the way with 108 while Olly Sharp smashed 92 from 49 balls, opener Masoor Khan contributed 64, and Ross Robbins was undefeated on 50. Old Bristolians were then shot out in fewer than 28 overs with Robbins (3-20) and Will Duggan (3-23) returning the best figures.

Ahmed Syed and Daniel Broome, the fifth and sixth bowlers used by Golden Hill, took 5-31 and 3-14 respectively as Congresbury were removed for 146 in 45.4 overs. The leaders reached their target in 42.1 overs but not before losing seven wickets.

Twyford House moved into the top half of the table with a 72-run win over Taunton St Andrews. Curtis Blakemore held their innings together, making an unbeaten 70 from 131 balls in their 261-7 before Alex Quin took 5-50 as Taunton St Andrews were dismissed in 42.5 overs. Mark Fowler picked up 3-18.

Tewkesbury captain Tom Allcoat made 71 and then took 5-28 to help his side to a 70-run win over Purton in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts. Allcoat arrived at the wicket with his side 10-3 after winning the toss but helped re-shape the innings with a fourth-wicket partnership of 145 with Josh Barnes (76) in Tewkesbury’s all-out 224. Anthony D’Sa took 3-38 before Purton were dismissed inside 39 overs.

Jeremy Bond claimed 5-41, and Frank Akankwasa took 3-44 as Corsham were bowled out for 231 by Marshfield. But that was as good as it got for Marshfield, who were skittled for 88 in 23 overs.

Jamie Wakefield was another bowler to take wickets in a losing cause. He claimed 6-79 for Chipping Sodbury, but Goatacre still got home by three wickets as they chased down Chipping Sodbury’s 220 in fewer than 30 overs. Harry Rendell made 67 for Chipping Sodbury.

Leaders Hatherley and Reddings returned to winning ways with a seven-wicket win against Painswick after bowling them out for 204.

Jonathan Conolly top-scored for Painswick with 65 while Rugs Magarira took 3-40 and Max Kelly 3-49 for Hatherley. Hatherley reached their target in 33.3 overs with Aranyadev Jhala unbeaten on 69 while opener Henry Driver-Dickerson made 61.

An unbeaten 52 by Rhys Grove earned Brislington a thrilling one-wicket win over Downend 2nds, who are still looking for their first win in Bristol &North Somerset.

Brislington overhauled Downend’s 253-6 with nine balls to spare after opener William Ollis had made 86. Izatullah Stankzai claimed 4-42 for Downend. Earlier, Matthew Pound (69) and Edward Chidgey (66) had put on 122 for Downend’s first wicket while Bobby Naeem made an unbeaten 67. Arthur Harman was the most successful of the Brislington bowlers with 3-32.

David O’Brien snapped up 5-24 in six overs as Frenchay were shot out for 100 by Bishopston, who had earlier made 177. Opener Arnold Otwani top-scored for Bishopston with 56 while Madushan Ravichandrakumar took 4-23 and Alex Stell 3-53 for Frenchay.
