Matthew Barratt Scores A Century, Then Takes 5 Wickets In GCL

Matthew Barratt was the star of the show as Dymock beat Bourton Vale 2nds by 10 runs in Division Four of the Gloucestershire Cricket League.

Barratt, batting at four, made an unbeaten 110 in his side’s 233-5 after skipper Dan Gale had won the toss. He then followed up by taking 5-39 as Bourton were dismissed in the 37th over. Richard Cook top-scored for Bourton with 71.

Opener Brad Holder hit a quicker than a run-a ball 126 for Frocester 3rds as they made 222-9, a total that was 28 too many for Corse & Staunton 2nds. Joseph Downey (4-36) and George Davis (3-31) were the most successful of the bowlers, while earlier William Orton had taken 3-20 for Corse & Staunton.

Jason Huxstep returned figures of 5-9 from 7.2 overs as Kingsholm 2nds were dismissed for 117 by Kings Stanley. Leaders Kings Stanley had made 213-5 with Josh Gray top-scoring with 61.

Rockhampton thumped previously unbeaten Tetbury by eight wickets in Division One. Opener Luke Ashen crunched 81 from 37 balls – five fours and nine sixes – but Tetbury were bowled out for 191 after winning the toss with Dave McCabe the most successful of the Rockhampton bowlers with 3-34.  Louis Warren then compiled an unbeaten 88 as third-placed Rockhampton knocked off the runs inside 33 overs.

Second-placed Apperley moved to within three points of Tetbury with a two-wicket win over Cirencester. Alex Tuck made a quicker than run-a-ball unbeaten 67 in Cirencester’s 214-8 before Apperley were made to work hard for their victory, getting home with seven balls to spare. Josh Brown was their top scorer with 50 while Declan Rugg took 3-32 for Cirencester.

Poulton also got home by two wickets against Thornbury 2nds. New-ball bowler James Newman took 5-33 for Poulton, but Thornbury 2nds still reached 221-8 thanks mainly to Andy Weeks (86) and Luke Davis (68). Opener Jody Lawrence made 72 for Poulton before Max Arnold, with the scores level, hit a six from the third ball of the final over. Luke Davis (4-46) and George Wrigley (3-35) were the most successful of the Thornbury bowlers.

Cheltenham Civil Service moved off the bottom of the table with a 47-run win over Lydney. Service made 247-8 with Murad Hayat (58) and Bradley Attwood (57) their main contributors, and that was too many for Lydney despite a fine innings by Ben Ferguson, who carried his bat for 110. Richard Robinson returned the excellent figures of 5-15 from nine overs for Service, while earlier Jordan Stone collected 3-36 for Lydney.

Cam, who beat Ullenwood Bharat by one wicket the previous week, were involved in another thriller in Division Two, but this time they were on the wrong end of the result as they were beaten by three runs by Dumbleton 2nds. Dumbleton made 233-9 with skipper Max Rouvray (72) and Freddie Sharp (68) leading the way, while Alex Atkinson took 3-33. Opener Ryan Malpass made 79 in Cam’s reply, but Peter Hall was stumped by Dan Lee off the bowling of Thomas Clelland from the final ball of the game to leave his side nine wickets down. Clelland picked up 3-49 while Rouvray snapped up 4-44.

Leaders Gloucester AIW Sports rushed to a 160-run win over Westbury-on-Severn, who were dismissed for 90 with Shockat Veshmia taking 4-33. Mohammad Saleh top-scored for AIW with 59 while Greg Artus took 3-55 for Westbury.

Skipper Luke Bond claimed 4-30, and Oakleigh Roe claimed 3-35 as Kingsholm bowled out Hatherley and Reddings 2nds for 203, despite opener Sam Coote’s 97.

Kingsholm slipped to 75-4 in reply, but Matt Cayless joined Bond, who finished on 82, to help steer his side home with 27 balls to spare. Aditya Rathore took 3-31 for Hatherley.

Tom Parry collected 5-37 as Woodmancote were bowled out for 215 in the 45th over by Quedgeley and Hardwicke. Ade Stenner made 62 for Woodmancote before Jordan Rouse (97 not out) and Jake Huggins (54) eased Quedgeley and Hardwicke to victory by seven wickets.

Opener James Bearman made 98 of Frampton-on-Severn’s 208-8, which was 105 too many for Rockhampton 2nds in Division Three. Connor Davis took 4-14 for Frampton, while earlier Pierre Ball claimed 3-23 for Rockhampton.

Chipping Sodbury 2nds raced to an eight-wicket win over Shurdington after restricting them to 191-8, a total they went past in 23 overs. Isaac Havard was unbeaten on 91, and Ollie Barton made an undefeated 59 from 22 balls for Chipping Sodbury. Dan Rackley made 71 for Shurdington while George Nethercote took 3-24 for Chipping Sodbury.

Leaders Charlton Kings 2nds defeated Cheltenham 3rds despite Rob Cooper’s 110 from 88 balls in Cheltenham’s 254 all out. Charlton Kings got home with four wickets and nine balls to spare, with Dan Gadsden (67) and Tyson McCallum (60) their leading run-getters.

Great Rissington are four points off the pace after their 130-run win over Newent. Kyle Swanepoel again led the way for Rissington, this time making 123 from 101 balls and sharing in an opening partnership of 209 with Jack Hughes (70). Rissington made 282-3 before Newent were dismissed in 39 overs with Dan Parker taking 4-40.

Hector Gray made 172 from 103 balls as Langford 2nds walloped Goodrich by 245 runs in Division Five. He put on 212 for the first wicket with Laila Moledina (52) as Langford made 344-4. Goodrich were bowled out inside 26 overs with Sam Greenslade picking up 4-13.

Anthony Yiollaris took 5-31 for Stroud 2nds, but his side still went down by 80 runs to Hatherley and Reddings 3rds. Hatherley made 250-9 with skipper Matthew Hole, batting at nine, crunching an unbeaten 50 from 24 balls. Stroud were bowled out inside 35 overs with Simon Bennett (3-5) and Ben Higgs (3-55) the chief wicket-takers for Hatherley.
