Week 10 Bristol & District League review

JAMIE Phillips hammered an unbeaten 195 – the highest individual score so far this season in the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League – as Brislington 4ths completed a ten-run home win over St Mary Redcliffe 2nds in Division Eight E.

The opener faced 130 balls, striking 30 fours and four sixes – to dominate his side’s 300-4 from 40 overs.

But Redcliffe battled hard in reply before falling short, opener Matt Moore (86) leading the charge.

It was also a day to remember in the same division for Bristol Mavericks’ Koushik Puliyamgote who cracked 153 off 110 away to Carsons & Mangotsfield 3rds.

The opener finished with 24 fours and a six, and added 199 for the first wicket with Vinay Kumar whose 95 from 71 included 16 fours and one six.

Three wickets each for Fawas Ryan and Jaice Vargese then wrapped up a 201-run victory for the Mavericks.

Over on the main square at Carsons & Mangotsfield, Matt Clatworthy’s career-best 149 not out laid the foundations for the first team to overcome Bristol Aces by 156 runs in Division Four.

The opener faced 111 deliveries, hitting 26 fours and one six, in a 38-over challenge of 288-4 before the Aces were all out for 132, Craig Woodland and Ian Buckingham taking four wickets apiece.

Downend 2nds are up to third in the Senior Division after a 44-run home victory over Hanham who now find themselves bottom.

Blake Sculthorpe dominated Downend’s total of 295-4 with an unbeaten 159 from 100 (19 fours, seven sixes) while Dan Jackson’s 85 not out in reply could not save Hanham.

The last wicket pair of Aaron Jones and Matt Smith added the 12 runs that took Coalpit Heath to victory away to Claverham.

The North Somerset side reached 164-6 from a rain-reduced 35 overs, Olly Ralph top scoring on 64 as Chris Cooke claimed 3-31.

Claverham then appeared to be in charge after reducing their visitors to 138-8, but Jones stepped up with an unbeaten 37 off only 19, including a six that sealed the points.

Stapleton, meanwhile, made it three in a row with a 78-run success against Golden Hill 2nds that included a first senior century for teenage opener Ed Chidgey who finished unbeaten on 115 from 126 (14 fours). George McEndoo also played his part with a return of 6-43 from nine.

Simon Pratt produced one of the bowling performances of the day to finish with 6-25 from eight for OB Westbury 2nds who defeated their Frenchay counterparts by 90 runs in Division Three.

Unbeaten leaders Bedminster 3rds marched on with a six wicket home defeat of Long Ashton, Joe Armitage unbeaten on 44.
