Week 11 Gloucestershire Cricket League review

RECORDS were sent flying as Tyrone Hoskins and captain Will Peters shared an unbroken opening stand of 339 for leaders St Briavels who went on to defeat local rivals Alvington & Woolastone by 119 runs in Division Eight A of the Gloucestershire League.

Hoskins (pictured right) was the dominant partner, reaching 170 off 120 (19 fours, nine sixes) while Peters scored 118 from 129 (15 fours, two sixes) as the pair made the most of the batter-friendly conditions after winning the toss.

Their partnership bettered the club record of 261 which the pair set last year, against Redmarley. And Hoskins also improved on his own club record individual score of 157 not out from that same game!

Both players still had enough energy left over to do their bit with the ball. Peters opened, sending down six overs for 35, while Hoskins came on first change to bag 2-43 from eight as Alvington were restricted to a reply of 220-8, Tyrone Skidmore unbeaten on 57.

Over in Division Eight D, Liam Terrel produced one of the bowling displays of the day to claim 6-17 from eight for leaders King’s Stanley 2nds who made it 11 from 11 with a ten-wicket home pounding of Eastington.

Freddie Burrage stood firm with an unbeaten 53 after the visitors were dismissed for 149 ahead of Sukesh Koshy (75) and Matt Bamford (58) then wrapping up a comprehensive victory.

Corse & Staunton, the Division One pacesetters, squeezed in by one wicket at home to Tetbury who were dismissed for 193, Callum King capturing 4-27 from nine.

Corse were then indebted to Matt Cox who dominated his side’s reply with 102 from 122 (11 fours, four sixes) before the final pair grabbed the winning runs with two balls to spare.

At the other end of the table, Redmarley ended a run of eight successive defeats with a 17-run home defeat of Rockhampton to move off the bottom.

Craig Stow top scored on 72 before falling victim to Finley Sherred-Isles (4-27 from eight) in a challenge of 215-9.

And although Sherred-Isles followed up with 54 at the top of the order, three wickets apiece from Rich Henry and Stow ensured a welcome win.

Opener Nirvaan Jain, meanwhile, dug in with an unbeaten 96 to guide Cheltenham 2nds to a two-wicket victory at Kingsholm.

Hatherley & Reddings 2nds moved out of the Division Two drop zone with an 18-run home victory against Westbury-on-Severn, Obo Price and George Collingwood taking three wickets apiece.

But Toriqul Islam’s 100 from 131 (15 fours) could not save Ullenwood Bharat from a five-wicket home setback against Cam.

Gloucester AIW slipped off the top of Division Three with a 35-run home reverse against Newent, and that result enabled Woodmancote to take pole position courtesy of a 138-run home hammering of Dymock which featured a hat-trick for Ryan Bignall (3-23).

King’s Stanley, the Division Five leaders, bowled out Goodrich for 94 ahead of wrapping up an eight-wicket win to move further clear as closest rivals Sheepscombe succumbed by 102 runs away to Langford 2nds for whom Aaron Court hit a breezy 79 off 54 (12 fours, three sixes).
