Week 15 Bristol & District League round-up

BRISTOL Pakistanis reclaimed third place in the Senior Division of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League thanks to a 216-run home victory over Whitchurch which featured centuries from Muhammad Azeem and Saqib Imran.

The pair added 152 for the fourth wicket, helping their side recover from 3-2 with Imran first out for 106 from 83 (ten fours, seven sixes) while Azeem followed for 117 from 111 (12 ours, three sixes).

The home side piled up 326-9 ahead of struggling Whitchurch slipping to 110 all out, captain Urfan Malik (4-25 from eight) taking charge.

Pak Bristolians dropped a place to fourth despite a 26-run victory away to Downend 2nds, Subhan Razaq top scoring on 48.

Leaders Frenchay rolled on with a five-wicket home win against Claverham, opener Akeel Yousaf hiting 58 to remain on course for the championship trophy and an immediate return to WEPl along with Winterbourne who thumped Coalpit Heath by 165 runs, opener Nabeel Ahmad hitting 134 from 115 (12 fours, four sixes) and also taking 3-27 from nine.

Golden Hill 2nds, the leaders of Division One, went down by three wickets away to their Midsomer Norton counterparts but stay 11 points clear as nearest rivals Portishead also lost, by two wickets away at Hambrook for whom Ben Scrase dug in for an unbeaten 55 from 86.

Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds continued their excellent run of form in Division Two with an eight-wicket victory against their Twyford House counterparts, opener Muntasir Nayeem hammering 57 from 41.

In Division Three, Muhammad Ramzan captured 3-44 from eight as Almondsbury folded from 131-1 to 200 all out against Bitton despite half centuries from Jack Kewley and Kishan Patel.

George Wilshire then took control with an unbeaten 105 of 108 (12 fours) to complete a convincing win.

The Loud family played starring roles in a seven-wicket victory for St Mary Redcliffe away to Hanham 2nds in Division Five.

Gloucestershire Over 50s seamer Jason began the day by taking 5-16 from seven as Hanham were dismissed for 152.

And youngest son Harry then stepped up with 58 at the top of the order, just as brother Callum was racing to 82 for Downend in the WEPL competition!

Stoke Bishop remain on course for a 100 per cent season after making it 15 from 15 in Division Seven West with a seven-run victory away to Shirehampton 2nds.

Opener Gordon Leeks hit 45 in the visitors’ challenge of 182-9 before Greg Crichton’s return of 3-40 helped close out his side’s latest success.
